Josephine Cameron: Music

Just a Closer Walk With Thee

(Josephine Cameron)
K. Morris
No one seems to know who wrote this popular gospel tune, which is a relatively recent addition to the traditional music scene. In fact it may not be quite traditional at all—the first published version apparently did not appear until 1973. But it is certainly one of the most popular gospel tunes by any standard. The singer is calling out for a certain strength, searching to fulfill a longing for contentment, longing for home—in this case, a spiritual home.
I am weak but Thou art strong
Jesus keep me from all wrong
I'll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk, close to Thee

Just a closer walk with Thee
Grant it Jesus is my plea
Daily walking close to Thee
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be

Through this world of toil and snares
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee

Just a closer walk with Thee
Grant it Jesus is my plea
Daily walking close to Thee
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be
